Stealing a “Slow Art” moment at any time is a splendid antidote to the wild pace we often keep.

WHAT IS SLOW ART?

Slow food began as a way to defy our fast food culture, slow living embraces local products and a “take only what you need” mindset, and then came slow art.

The slow movement is not about doing everything at a snail’s pace but rather savouring the things you do to find balance focusing on good quality over quantity.

Slow Art is about allowing time to look closely at an art object or painting and be amazed at what you can see. Studies have shown that people typically linger an average of only 17 seconds while viewing art in a gallery or museum. Taking time with beauty can be a little sanctuary - good for your mental health, and sparking your own creativity and wonder.

The good news is that slow art is gaining traction which includes some cities permitting psychiatrists to prescribe patients an art museum outing for their mental health, as well as police officers and doctors taking slow art classes to sharpen their powers of observation. The greatest benefit is that anyone can do it anywhere!

Imagine what you might find inside a work of art!

ART is right in the middle of taking it SLOW and getting in the FLOW!

THINK ABOUT IT!

Would your school or organization like a Slow Art chat, demo, and/or art activity with your group? Please contact me and I’d be happy to discuss the details.

NEW - Art Curriculum!!

Slow Art curriculum is in the testing phase!  Using my Alphabet Art as the base for each chapter, these teacher friendly lesson plans introduce the concept of Slow Art and how to use it as an antidote to the distraction children face today.

As well as providing lots of art activities, entertaining over-the-top alliterative stories, and famous artist bios and artwork, this curriculum touches on Language Arts, Social Studies, Art History and Culture.

With this program, no curator is needed for us to “SEE, THINK AND WONDER” about art together!
